Ontario Provincial Police were investigating the scene of a fatal car accident involving three vehicles on March 4. The crash happened at around 6 a.m. on London Road, also known as Highway 4, between Crediton Road and Kirkton Road.
A preliminary investigation that Huron County OPP and OPP West Region traffic collision investigators conducted revealed that a Jeep heading north travelled over the centre line. After the Jeep sideswiped a Toyota in the southbound lane, it hit a Chrysler heading south head-on. Authorities were forced to close the section of highway for hours, and investigators were still on the scene as of 1 p.m. However, they could not determine the cause of the auto accident.
Responding to the accident with Huron County OPP were Huron County EMS and South Huron Fire Department personnel. EMS took the two Toyota occupants and 19-year-old male driver of the Jeep to hospital. The Jeep driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the Toyota occupants were later released. However, the 46-year-old female driver of the Chrysler died on-site.
When people are injured in a car accident, they could be entitled to no-fault benefits from their insurers. This allows them to recover some of the financial damages that they suffer as a result of the accident, whether they caused it or not.
However, when traffic collisions are the result of a driver’s negligence, the victims might be awarded additional compensation if they file personal injury lawsuits against that driver. The amount of the compensation awarded is based on the severity of the injuries and financial damages that the victims suffer.
