Police are searching for people who may have witnessed a tragic accident that happened last Saturday, just outside of Pointe au Baril along Highway 69. The incident happened at approximately 2 p.m. A pickup truck tried to pass two recreational vehicles and had to swerve out of the way to avoid an oncoming sport utility vehicle.
The sport utility vehicle ended up striking one of the recreational vehicles head-on. Tragically a 72-year-old and 71-year-old married couple who were riding in one of the vehicles did not survive the collision. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the two occupants of the passing pickup truck and the two occupants of the recreational vehicles survived. However, they were all taken to the hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are now asking for anyone who may have seen the wreck happen to come forward. At this time, authorities say that the pickup truck driver will probably be charged in the incident. Although the driver has not been charged yet, police confirmed that charges will likely be forthcoming upon completion of their investigations.
Police will always do their best to determine exactly what happened following an auto collision. Not only will this enable authorities to hold responsible parties accountable in criminal court, but it will also support individuals injured in the crash, and family members of those who were killed, to seek financial restitution for wrongful death damages and personal injury damages stemming from the accident. Such damages could include money for medical care, money for end of life expenses and other kinds of damages.
