Authorities in Ontario have reported than an 18-year-old man was killed on Feb. 11 in a two-vehicle accident in Zorra Township. Oxford County police did not immediately give details about what may have caused the accident, and they reported that their investigation was ongoing. The second driver was also injured in the crash, but he is expected to recover. The collision occurred north of Thamesford at approximately 6:30 p.m. on 19th Line.
According to a provincial police report, the deceased man was proceeding northbound on 19th Line when he lost control of his car between Road 74 and Road 68 and crossed into the path of oncoming traffic. The man’s car then struck a southbound minivan head-on. Emergency services personnel arriving at the auto accident scene pronounced the driver of the car dead
The driver of the minivan suffered what were described as non-life threatening injuries, and he was transported by paramedics to an area medical facility for treatment. The accident caused 19th Line to be closed for a number of hours as medical personnel tended to the injured man and police officers began their investigation.
Accidents involving a wrong-way driver are often extremely serious. These collisions rarely give motorists adequate time to react and take evasive action, and the combined speed of the vehicles involved frequently results in catastrophic injuries or fatalities. While this kind of accident may be caused by a mechanical failure, a distracted, drowsy or intoxicated driver may also be responsible. When a negligent motorist is killed in an accident, a personal injury lawyer may file a lawsuit on behalf of those injured against their insurance provider or estate. This litigation may seek compensation for an accident victim’s expenses, property damage and lost income.
